Ryan McDonough, DO – Medical Conference Chair

Dr. Ryan McDonough received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, from Creighton University in 2006.  He then attended Des Moines University, where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.  Following completion of medical school, he completed a General Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes Fellowship at Children’s Mercy – Kansas City.  He joined the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Mercy in 2016.  He also serves as the Senior Medical Director & Chief Medical Informatics Officer – Health Informatics.

 

Dr. McDonough has appointments as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri Kansas City, and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In addition to his academic roles, he serve at the Co-Medical Director of the Children’s Mercy Diabetes Center, which provides care to over 2700 children with all forms of diabetes. He is triple board certified in General Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes, and Clinical Informatics.   

Tiffany Addington, MD

Dr. Addington completed her medical education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City (CM).  She is currently a pediatric urgent care physician with Children’s Mercy Kansas City.  She is the Medical Director for Children’s Mercy Kansas City’s East Urgent Care and the Director for Professional Development and Engagement for the Division of Urgent Care.  In the professional development role, Dr. Addington is actively involved in mentoring pediatric urgent care providers through academic promotion.  She is also working to develop meaningful engagement opportunities for pediatric urgent care providers within the CM organization.

G. Todd Alonso, MD

Dr. G. Todd Alonso, MD is a pediatric endocrinologist who serves as the Medical Director for the Barbara Davis Center Pediatric Clinic and the director of quality improvement. He is also affiliated with the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.  He has been medical director of the American Diabetes Association’s Camp Colorado since 2015.

Carla Cox, PhD, RDN, CDCES, FADCES

Carla Cox, Carla Cox, PhD, RDN, DCES, FADCES works at Mountain Vista Medicine/Pediatric Endocrinology in Utah and the American Diabetes Association Consumer programs division based in Virginia.  She is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist. She has worked for over 40 years in the field of diabetes, with special emphasis in type 1 diabetes and the use of insulin pumps and sensors.   She has been a member of both the research and practice committees of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and is a yearly volunteer supporting children with diabetes at multiple ADA summer youth camps and Riding on Insulin camps. She has written multiple articles on diabetes technology and provided talks to local, state and national organizations.  and has authored tip sheets for all pumps and sensors for ADA camp medical personnel.

Abby Hollander, MD

Abby Hollander, MD is a Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, who is now retired after 28 years on faculty at Washington University School of Medicine. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, completed pediatric residency at Northwestern University/Children’s Memorial Hospital, and completed pediatric endocrinology fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Hollander been a volunteer for the

American Diabetes Association (ADA)’s Camp EDI, the Ed and Gloria Hirsch Camp for Children with Diabetes in Missouri since 1990, and served as medical director from 2001-2022. She is a member of the ADA’s national Camp Medical Leadership Group. Dr. Hollander has a longstanding interest in providing education to optimize diabetes care in the camp setting. She is co-creator of Diabetes at Camp, an ADA online course.

Katie Jackson, DO

Katie Jackson, DO is a pediatric endocrinologist at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  She has an academic affiliation with St. Louis University.  She earned her medical school degree at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO.  She then completed pediatric residency training at Cardinal Glennon, and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  She has been a medical co-director for diabetes Camp EDI in 2019 and 2022, and medical staff for ADA camps since 2011, including Camp EDI, Camp Planet D, and Camp Grenada.

Andie Kaminsky, RN, BSN, CDCES

Andie Kaminsky, BSN, RN, CDCES, CPN works for Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Andie has been a diabetes educator on the Diabetes Team for a little over six years recently moving into the assistant nurse manager position.  Her passion for diabetes education comes from living with T1D.

Katie Noland, MS, BSN, RN, CDCES, CPN

Katie Noland, MS, BSN, RN, CD CES, CPN  works for Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  Katie has been a nurse for 9 years, 4 of which have been spent as a pediatric diabetes educator.  She splits her time half in clinic and half working with their Innovative team, the Rising T1d Alliance, that works towards finding improvements to diabetes care and looking to help patients improve their quality of life.

Kyle Overlease, RN

Kyle Overlease, RN works for Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, MO as a registered nurse in the Neurosurgical ICU. 

Cierra Reynolds, BSN, RN

Cierra Reynolds, RN, CDCES has been a registered nurse for 3 years and a diabetes educator for 2 years.  She attended nursing school at the University of Central Missouri and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  She is currently a diabetes educator at Children’s Mercy Kansas City.  Her passion for diabetes education comes from living with T1D for 15 years and being able to relate and make a difference with her patients.  She has helped coordinate the Nursing Staff at a diabetes camp for 2 years.
