    Surf Day in Pacifica

    • Audience: Youth & Teen
    • Program Type: Event - Part or Full Day

    Kids and teens can play in the ocean or take surfing lessons while parents watch and enjoy the beach.  Professional surf instructors and counselors trained in diabetes management lead this popular program for families of a child with diabetes.  Equipment and light snacks are provided.  Siblings are welcome to join in the surfing fun!Â

    Campamento Familiar en Espanol

    This monolingual Spanish-speaking program is offered in partnership with UCSF. Families will enjoy typical camp activities while receving diabetes education in Spanish.

    Bay Area Diabetes Summit

    The Bay Area Diabetes Summit is a collaborative effort of medical providers, community organizations, and medical institutions throughout the Bay Area including Kaiser Permanente, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Pediatric Diabetes Center at Stanford University, Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes at University of California San Francisco, Benioff Children’s Hospital, San Francisco and Oakland, Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation, Mills-Peninsula Health Services Diabetes Research Institute, University of California San Francisco Diabetes Center, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Carb DM – Seize Diabetes, American Diabetes Association, and DYF.

    Leaders-in-Training Year 1

    • Dates: July 29, 2017 to August 10, 2018
    • Audience: Teen
    • Program Type: Overnight Camp

    Older teens who participate in our Leaders-in-Training program gain valuable experience and leadership skills that develop a strong foundation for the responsibilties of adutlhood, including college, work, family and community.  Participants must complete LIT I before entering LIT II or demonstrate equivalent experience.  Teens who successfully complete the LIT program and apply to work at our programs receive priority in becoming staff upon age 18. Written application and a phone/skype interview required for acceptance into program.  Application available upon registration. Ages: 16 - 17 (with and without diabetes)

    Bearskin Meadow Buddy Camp

    Campers are encouraged to bring their friends, sibling, or cousins to share the excitement of camp. Ages 7-15 with AND without diabetes.

    Camp de los Niños

    • Dates: July 01, 2018 to July 06, 2018

    • Program Type: Overnight Camp

    Ages 7-13 Kids and teens will find this week long camp filled with adventure, fun, challenge, and friendship. Campers are grouped together with other kids and teens their own age and live in cabins with counselors. In addition to diabetes education, participants enjoy classic camp experiences such as swimming, arts & crafts, sports & games, dance, campfires, and more. This program is a great option for participants who are looking for a shorter camp experience closer to the Bay Area.

    Kids Camp

    Kids who are ready for an independent camp experience will find this week-long camp filled with adventure, fun and friendship.  Campers are grouped with kids their own age and sleep on a deck with two to three counselors.  In addition to diabetes education, the kids enjoy classic camp experiences, such as swimming, nature, arts & crafts, sports & games, dance, overnights, campfires and more.  Ages: 7 - 13

    Bearskin Meadow Teen Camp

    Our Teen Camp is specifically designed to meet the distinct needs and expectations of teens wtih type-1 diabetes.  Teens choose one program area and spend much of their time bonding with other teens in their program.  Choices  include: Sports, Visual Arts, Wilderness, and Performing Arts.  While at camp, participants also recieve formal diabetes education featuring nationally recognized presenters, plus break out sessions on various teen related health, wellness and real-world life issues.  Ages: 14 - 17, 13 and entering high school welcomeÂ

In addition to social and recreational activities, diabetes education and support is always a priority.  Parents attend educational seminars, siblings attend support sessions and children & teens with diabetes participate in special rap sessions with staff and peers.  Family Camp is ideal for any family especially those with a child who is newly-diagnosed, too young for Kids Camp or not ready for the independent Kids Camp experience. Â

    Tomales Bay Kayaking Adventure

    Teens with an appetite for adventure will love this one day program on Tomales Bay. DYF counselors and medical staff team up with trained kayaking professionals to provide an unforgettable experience on the water. Equipment and lunch are provided.

    Spooktacular Family Retreat

    The entire family will love DYF's annual fall retreat at YMCA's Camp Jones Gulch in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. In addition to diabetes education led by experienced health professionals and a nationally known keynote speaker, families enjoy numerous organized social and recreational activities, including nature, sports, games, arts & crafts, ropes course, basketball, campfires and more.  The theme of the weekend? Halloween!Â
