Diabetes camping professionals from around the world gather at DECA's International Diabetes Camping Conferences to network and share best practices. Leaders in diabetes, program development and management offer critical educational sessions that deliver positive impact to every program. In addition to the extraordinary training sessions, diabetes camping leaders have the opportunity to meet peers from around the world, to share new ideas and insights that have a lasting effect on the participants served by diabetes camps worldwide.
DECA's 2015 International Diabetes Camping Conference will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada December 4-6, 2015 immediately following the International Diabetes Federation's World Diabetes Congress. Sir Michael Hirst, President of the International Diabetes Federation and passionate advocate of families living with diabetes, will give the keynote address. He was a Member of British Parliment when his five year-old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He championed the cause of diabetes in Parliament, became Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Diabetes UK, and advocates for diabetes initiatives worldwide including the IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes. DECA is offering several exciting and informative webinars this spring presented by leading diabetes camp and healthcare professionals through our conference/webinar service to help get you and your camp staff ready for your best diabetes camp ever! Webinar topics include best practices and cutting edge methodologies in bullying and noncompliance at camp, behavior strategies in the developmental life cycle of your campers and much more. Board development, fund raising, Leadership-in-Training program development, collaboration with local agencies – these are issues that many diabetes camps face. DECA staff and professional camp volunteers from DECA’s community provide consultation to existing camps facing challenges. DECA staff and volunteers also provide assistance to individuals and groups hoping to start camps. Consultation services can range from a few phone calls to an intensive evaluation and training visit. Staff stand ready to assist anyone whose mission is aligned with helping youth and families through diabetes camping programs.

DLead connects dynamic young leaders to create and support innovative solutions that engage individuals in the positive development of the underserved type 1 diabetes community in North America. DLead successfully launched DTreat, a retreat program for young adults that has been offered at college campuses across North America. By providing support, cooperative educational programs and tools for healthy living, DTreat participants develop positive wellbeing and supportive social networks. The IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes Program works to improve the lives of young people with diabetes through the development of future diabetes leaders. DECA works with IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes Program to expand opportunities for young leaders worldwide, to facilitate partnerships, to promote the expansion of diabetes camps, to serve in training and mentoring capacities and to form partnerships for healthy futures.
