Camp Leo is an oasis for hundreds of children every summer where they can forget about what seperates them--not because we pretend diabetes doesn’t exist, but because everyone in the camp community shares in their experiences. At camp, diabetes becomes the NORM, not the EXCEPTION! We work hard at camp to create a safe and secure environment where campers can have a blast, meet others with diabetes, learn about their disease, and gain independence essential for living a healthy and happy life.

The Leadership Training Weekend, held every year in the spring, is a crucial component of the Camp Leo Leaders in Training curriculum. This weekend is a three-day intensive program comprised of educational workshops, leadership and bonding activities, and targeted self-reflection. Participants are supported in learning leadership skills in a safe environment. The creative problem-solving, listening, and communication skills taught by the program can be used year-round by the participants to improve their interpersonal skills, academic performance, and community leadership. Participants interact with peers who confront the same challenge of being a teen with diabetes, and also with the weekend leadership, all whom have diabetes themselves, who can share their struggles, experiences, and helpful suggestions about how to lead a healthy life as a person with diabetes.
