    Camp Hertko Hollow is dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth who have diabetes. The goals at camp are: Recreation, Education, Regulation and FUN! Campers enjoy the traditional camp activities while learning about living with diabetes. Meeting other youth and counselors who have diabetes is also a great benefit of the experience.     Family Camp is just for you! Camp Hertko Hollow’s Family Camp is focused on providing inclusive family-centered programming that allows families to participate in camp activities, connect with other families living with diabetes, and spend quality time together as a family. This weekend is a great opportunity for families with newly diagnosed children or children who haven’t attended summer camp yet. Families get to learn first-hand what the summer camp experience is about, meet our staff, and hear from other families how Camp Hertko Hollow has changed their experience with diabetes. Come join us—unplug, enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and make lasting memories as a family!

    Leader In Training

    • Program Type: Overnight Camp

    Leaders In Training (LIT) – for 16 year olds The LIT program is designed for teens who want to enhance their skills in leadership. Emphasis is placed upon developing interpersonal and communication skills, as well as team-building through activities and service projects. Participation in the LIT program is by selection. Those interested in the program must complete an application process. Applicants who are not selected as an LIT candidate for 2022 may still register for Teen Week as a camper. After successful completion of the LIT program you may be recommended for the CIT program the following year.

    Counselor In Training (CIT)

    • Dates: June 23, 2024 to June 29, 2024

    Counselor In Training (CIT) – for 17 year olds The CIT program is designed to offer qualified young people an opportunity to prepare to become a counselor at Camp Hertko Hollow in future years. Emphasis is placed upon developing leadership skills, sensitivity to children and program skills. Participation in the CIT program is by selection. Those interested in the program must complete an application process, which includes an application and two letters of recommendation. Applicants who are not selected as a CIT candidate for 2023 may still register for Teen Week (July 2 – July 8, 2023) as a camper.

    Kids & Teen Week

    Camp Hertko Hollow provides camp programs on the scenic grounds of the Y Camp located north of Boone, Iowa and consists of modern facilities with access to 400 acres of forest in the picturesque Boone River Valley. This beautiful atmosphere offers a variety of recreational activities like archery, swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, and rock climbing (just to name a few). These activities allow campers to try things outside of their normal routine, gain new hobbies, and discuss what they learn about character and personal growth. Days at camp are a mix of cabin-group based activities and free-choice periods which are supervised at all times. Structured times are designated for education programs as well as diabetes management, meals, and rest. Activity and fun play is just the beginning.

    Mini Camp 1
