    Floridians are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as over 2.3 million residents suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes. In South Florida, approximately half of a million adults are currently living with diabetes. That is why the American Diabetes Association's South Florida office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease.

    Camp Gene is a lifeline for children with diabetes to develop the critical skills needed to thrive while managing this disease. Attending summer camp helps children develop social skills, self-respect, and life-long friendships. We give kids the opportunity to meet other kids just like them while fostering independence, building self-confidence and gaining an awareness of a healthy lifestyle through education, nutrition, exercise, emotional well-being and glucose control.
