Leadership Training Weekend
2015-05-01 to 2015-05-03

Audience: Teen
Program Type: Overnight Camp
ACA Accredited

The Leadership Training Weekend, held every year in the spring, is a crucial component of the Camp Leo Leaders in Training curriculum. This weekend is a three-day intensive program comprised of educational workshops, leadership and bonding activities, and targeted self-reflection.

Participants are supported in learning leadership skills in a safe environment. The creative problem-solving, listening, and communication skills taught by the program can be used year-round by the participants to improve their interpersonal skills, academic performance, and community leadership.

Participants interact with peers who confront the same challenge of being a teen with diabetes, and also with the weekend leadership, all whom have diabetes themselves, who can share their struggles, experiences, and helpful suggestions about how to lead a healthy life as a person with diabetes.

Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes is dedicated to providing an overnight camping experience for children with Type 1 diabetes where diabetes is the NORM rather than the EXCEPTION! Camp Leo creates a safe and secure environment where children can have fun away from home, meet other children with diabetes, learn about their disease, and gain independence essential for living a healthy and happy life.

Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes has been serving children with diabetes since 1990. Camp Leo is a resident (overnight) camping experience. The beautiful mountain atmosphere of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest offers a variety of recreational activities such as swimming, hiking, archery, field games, zip lining and rock wall climbing. Camp Leo also offers traditional camping activities such as singing, crafts, cabin skits, campfire, and special themed meals. Our goal is for kids to have fun by meeting others with diabetes and enjoy a normal summer camp adventure in an environment away from home.

Our Middle School Camp has daily diabetes education games and learning opportunities tailored to fit the developmental level and needs of that age group. Our 8th grade campers participate in an overnight camping adventure
