Family Camps are a fun mini-vacation for the whole family and are a great introduction to the Camp Nejeda experience for young children and newly diagnosed children. They also provide a peek into camp life for parents and siblings.

Camp Nejeda's Family Camp Programs recognize that managing diabetes can be challenging for the entire family.     Lots of fun family friendly camp activities are supplemented with opportunities for parents, kids and siblings to meet and talk with other people who share their unique challenges.

The Family Camp fee includes housing (one family/cabin) and all food and program expenses for a family of four; additional slots available for a fee.

Camp Nejeda Session 1
2016-07-03 to 2016-07-09

Audience: Youth
Program Type: Overnight Camp
ACA Accredited

Camp Nejeda offers all the activities you would expect to find at any sleep-away camp, but the Camp Nejeda experience also provides formal and informal educational opportunities for campers to learn how to better manage their diabetes, make healthy food choices, and maintain a good attitude.

Each cabin houses eight campers, two Senior Counselors and two Junior Counselors. Each session is attended by approximately 40 girls and 40 boys. Our campers come primarily from NJ, NY and PA, but we welcome campers from everywhere. Most of our counselors are alumni of Camp Nejeda and have diabetes themselves.

The camp day has activity periods where the camper's can pick their own activity and some periods where things are done in cabin groups. The camp has a seven-acre lake, archery range, basketball, tetherball and volleyball courts, sports fields, low-ropes course, indoor gym, arts & crafts center, playground, swimming pool, quiet games area, and hiking and biking trails. The pool is used every day. Meals are served to each cabin's table. Evening activities include games, dances, campfires, pool parties, and more.

Camp Nejeda is a summer camp for kids with diabetes, not a diabetes boot camp. Each camper attends programs on nutrition and diabetes management during their stay, but the most valuable educational opportunities come in the form of teachable moments which occur when the campers interact with our Health Center Staff and their Counselors during insulin administration and throughout the day. Our Camp Director, Jim Daschbach, has been with Camp Nejeda since 1990.
